I finally got out on the ice for the first time yesterday afternoon. My buddy Ray and I decided to just walk out and try one of our "close to shore" spots since it was so cold and we didn't feel like taking the 4-wheelers. We fished in about 43 feet of water from about 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.. I could only land 5 undersized fish, with 4 of them coming on a #7 jigging rap that I custom painted, the 5th fish came on a #9 parrot jigging rap. Ray caught one keeper jigging a #7 firetiger jigging rap, and one nice one on a tip-up. I didn't even bother with tip-ups because of the cold. A good 8 inches of ice where we were, and shanties starting to pop up throughout the outer bay as well. Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area...
