Yesterday I had a great morning of fishing with long-time client and all around great guy Gary Shackelton. We started out drifting in the outer bay with floating jig heads tipped with crawler halves, and Gary caught 3 real nice walleyes and a beautiful smallmouth bass that we released. Our wind died down so we headed to the north end to troll harnesses. We caught two keepers and lost a couple fish doing this before our time was up. We didn't have the greatest of fishing, but I always enjoy fishing with Gary. He's usually up here for a week or two at a time, and we usually fish a 1/2 day together. Hopefully he can go back to the same places we fished and get them on his own now.
Today's trip was with Mark Phlug (center in picture) and a bunch of great guys from down by Grand Rapids Michigan (I believe). We trolled Walleyes Choice harnesses over weed tops this morning to land 6 really nice walleyes and a few perch. We lost two decent walleyes as well. Once the wind really kicked up around mid morning our bite completely died. We had 6 guys and two boats...and the fishing was very tough. Supposed to get down into the 20's tonight...so I'm not sure what that will do to the fish for tomorrow's trip, but it probably won't help! Good luck from all of us in the Bays de Noc area.
