Herons and steelies and brookies, Oh my!

Got rained out at work today so nedless to say by 11:30 I was buying bait at  Sall-Mar and off to some of my favorite trout spots.  First cast was into a perfet looking deep cut run.  Hoping to hook into some nice brookies I was pleasantly suprised to see my rod contorting like a circus freak and hear my reel singing like the fat lady.  After about a 5 minute fight, I landed a 24inch steelie.  A nice way to start the day.  I saw only 2 more steelhead that were a bit smarter than their friend in my creel.  No takers.  Countless small brookies finished out my day.  After sneaking through some brush to get to my car, I nearly had a heart attack as I walked up on a Blue Heron.  He was clearly just as shocked to see me because he took off instantly.  What a massive, beautiful bird.  I've never seen one that close up before.  All in all it was a great day to be on the water.

Great report buddy! Sounds like you had an excellent day! You find any ticks on yourself yet??? Haven't heard much on the ticks lately. A friend of ours also had a nice day on brookies (yesterday). He got his limit and then was kind enough to give my dad a couple plus a bowl full of morel mushrooms he picked when he was done trout fishing! Perch fishin', trout fishin', mushroomin'....what's a guy to do???? Gotta love it!

Thanks guys. And yes Shmutz...WAY better than work. No ticks while fishing, but today I had one on me at work.  I've been kepin my eyes peeled for mushrooms too, but no luck there.  My brother went out yesterday, after I got back, with a buddy of his.  They both limited out as well.  Sounds like everyone I talk to is having a good year so far.  I took a couple pics with my phone so they're not the best but it's all I got.

Nice fish! Is that an ugly stick? I like them too. You just can't break the darn things...

Absolutely Tomjohn! Gotta love it. And yes Kevin, that is an Ugly Stick. I have 3 in varying sizes. That's my ultra light. It's a 5'6". I love em' too. Dirt cheap and nearly unbreakable. Great for getting to those hard to get pools and undercut banks.
