Hello fellow finatics! I don't know about the rest of you but I could barely sleep last night. It's like being a kid on Christmas Eve all over again. I know it's been unseasonably cool this spring but I'm heading to my favorite brookie stream today anyhow. I'll post a report later and would love to hear others as well.
After a real slow start.. Finished with 4 nice Brookies today. Kinda cool this morning but as the wind died down and the sun came out it wasnt bad at all this afternoon.
Way to go Rudy! It's a great feeling to know YOU provided dinner and not the market. Hope you got out today catman. It was a beautiful day for it. Here's my report: Like Rudy said, it was cooler this morning. I waited till 10 to head out. By then the sun was out and temps slowly climbed. Water temp was hovering between 44 and 47 degrees depending where I checked. I used nothing all day but crawlers on a #6 aberdine with a splitshot(size was adjusted to current) 14 inches up from it. Fishing was hot the minute my bait hit the water. I stopped counting after a while but I would estimate I landed and released Two dozen or more. All at least 9 inches. I kept 4. Just enough to feed the family tonight. My smallest keeper was 10.5 inches and the largest was 13.5. Two were native and two were plants. Ran into a couple of guys(Rudy maybe?lol) who said they did well too. The guy I talked to had 4 keepers. His biggest measuring in at 16inches. All in all, it was a fantastic opening day. It also had a perfect endeing. Fom the stream to the frying pan in less than 3 hours. Nothing's better.
I did start out with crawlers but a #6 Panther in OD green with silver blade was my ticket. Nuttin on the crawlers at all. The fish I cleaned had little green bugs is 'em. Also, I noticed all 6 fish and two lost, "My fishing partners total included," were at the head of rapids. Nothing in rapids or deeper, slower pools.
Sorry, Doubt it was me you saw as I didnt have any fish at the time I saw a couple fellas.. I had just started and didnt see anyone after.
