I wanted to show the jigs I used on our last trip for bluegills (Fish Lake), but we only had two of them and the tails had been ripped off both of them by the end of the day! Note to self: superglue the tails on! Anyway, both the bluegills and crappie absolutely tore up these little Cubby Mini Mite jigs. I was not using any type of live bait on them either. The two I'm showing in the pictures were the same two I used, so I guess these colors are pretty good. Anyway, my wife stopped at Bayshore Resort today and picked up a few more and she said they had a good selection of colors and were selling them for $1.29 each. Needless to say, I will be carrying them in our store from now on too...
OK, you broke me, and I picked up a few of these little suckers. How were you working them? Jigging straight over the side of the boat, or casting and jigging back? Seems like a fish could bite at 90% of that jig and not get the hook.

When Theresa and I were on Fish Lake, I was casting them and just reeling them ever so slowly back to the boat, while she fished bobber and worm. When we caught the perch off the Day's River, both of us were jigging them right over the side of the boat. Not really jigging though, more like just holding it and waiting for a bite. I think no matter how steady you hold your rod, that tail keeps quivering. I was worried about the tails too, but the fish inhale them and I think that's because they are so light weight. So really not a alot of pecking at just the tail section...
I've been playing with the Cubby Jigs the last couple times I've been fishing down in the Escanaba harbor. I haven't caught huge numbers yet, but the majority of the perch and gills I've caught would be what I consider keeper sized. I haven't fished them side by side with live bait yet, but it does seem like their larger size targets bigger panfish. I've caught more perch casting them, and gills by fishing right next to the boat, (they seem to need to eyeball it a little more before biting.)
