No boards, no linecounters, no leadcore, no gps and a lot less hassle! That's part of the appeal of catfishing for me. A few hooks and sinkers and some cut up sucker and you are good to go! My wife Theresa and I went for a ride to the Menominee River to see if the cats are active yet. The first place we fished she had on a nice pike which did a quick release right at shore, so that worked out nice. It was probably 33-34 inches. No cats here. The 2nd spot was good for one cat. We have caught much bigger, but a decent start none the less. Had high hopes after catching that first one since we hadn't fished our best spots yet. We kind of have a "milk run" of spots we hit when fishing from the bank. We fish a half hour to forty five minutes or so, then on to the next spot. Well, sometimes the best laid plans do not always work! Our last 3 spots were worthless due to high water. These spots are normally holding areas for the cats to rest up before shooting over another long riffle. But with the high water, there isn't any shallow riffles now!!! So nothing to keep the fish in the holes. Oh well, it felt good to sit along the river and soak up the sun. Don't think I'll have any trouble falling to sleep tonight because (as the picture shows), this catfishing is a lot of work...
Yeah, bank fishing can be a chor. Back in the day we fished the WI River from shore before our spots were developed and I remember sleeping good afterwards... though maybe the beers had a bit to do with it!
