The family and I fished Michigamme and Three Lakes area this weekend. The walleye action was steady with numerous throw backs and a hand full of keepers for dinner. Mayflies were hatching on Lakes Beaufort and Michigamme. All the walleye came from pitching jigs tip with leeches or 1/2 a crawler in 9-12 FOW aound the rocky reefs. Trolling produced nothing for us. The smallmouth action was constant with a few keeper sized fish. The smallies kept the kids busy all weekend.
Beaufort is a beautiful inland lake with several islands to drift around. We have a family camp on a neighboring little lake and I like to go to Beaufort for a change of scenery. I have fished Beaufort numerous times and I have never seen more than 6 boats on the lake at any one time. We always catch something there (pike, walleye, smallies, and the inevitable rock bass). Very little fishing pressure and very little PWC/ski traffic. I forgot to mention that we were entertained by a pair of bald eagles fishing the lake, too.
I really enjoy the forum and look forward to putting some of the information about the Bays de Noc to good use. I got spoiled living on the St. Mary's River in the EUP and now I have to take my licks learning the waters of the central UP.
You might want to try Lake Ellen for Splake and Chicaugoan Lake for walleye, perch, and Lake Trout. Also Squaw Lake isn't all that far from you I'm guessing for Lake Trout
