My wife Theresa and I made a last minute decision to try some trout fishing this evening. Her trout pole wasn't even rigged up, but mine was, and since it was already evening, I told her she could just use my pole and I'll tag along with my little Flip camcorder. Well, we got to the first spot and she wasn't too keen on walking through the tall grass to get to the little creek because of all the woodticks this year. I wasn't either, but she said for me to take the pole and try the first spot. So I did. I missed a little guy on the first cast. Then a really nice fish missed my spinner on the 2nd cast, but the same fish nailed it when it got another chance and the fight was on! I could not see it very good with the sun going down and shining in my eyes, so I thought I had a huge Brook Trout on the line. Boy was I surprised to see a 22 inch Steelhead on the end of the line. I just can't believe that fish was in a little creek a good five miles up stream from the bay with the warm weather we have had. I also can't believe I landed the darn thing since I only had my ultra light "creek rod" with my ultra tiny Zebco reel. Like I said, I would rather be lucky than good! We were not planning on keeping anything we caught so we didn't bother to bring ice to keep fish cold, so we ran it back to the store and put it in the cooler. We still had a little daylight left, so we took off again and hit one more creek that's nearby (took ice this time). Theresa fished this time, and on her first cast, landed a really nice 10 inch brookie. She had one more about the same size miss a couple casts later. By now, it was time to walk the dogs, so back we went. So we only fished two holes total and ended up with dinner for tomorrow night. You can't beat that!
